6 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife & Chimpanzee Trekking Safari
Our 6 days of exploring the savannah plains of Murchison falls National Park and trekking the Budongo chimpanzees rewards visitors with views of the phenomenal Murchison falls, rich diversity of wildlife species including Rothschild giraffes, Hippos, common warthogs, leopards, bushbucks, lions, Defassa waterbucks and many others. Over 10 primate species including chimpanzees alongside forest bird species will be countered in Budongo forest. With the visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, your dream of seeing the big five animals during a safari comes true hence activities include Rhino tracking, chimpanzee trekking, game drives, hike to the top of the falls, boat rides and cultural tours among others.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick-up from the Airport and drop-off at the Hotel in Kampala
Our professional driver guide will be waiting to pick you up from the Airport and drop you off at the Hotel in the Capital. Your overnight and dinner will be based here and depending on the arrival time, City tours will be organized.
Day 2: Embark on the journey to Murchison falls National Park via Luwero and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Our professional safari driver will meet, greet and pick you up from the Hotel at 7:00am and embark on the journey to Murchison falls National Park, through different en-route Towns including Luwero and Nakasongola. The countryside views, pastoral farms, roadside markets and stopovers should be expected during the journey and make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary at Nakitoma (Nakasongola). Get a chance to track the country’s wild rhino population in the company of an armed Sanctuary Ranger with information shared being on the breeding program and many others. En-route Lunch at Masindi Town or Kabalega Diners before continuing to the Park to marvel at the stunning Murchison falls.
Day 3: Game drives through the sweeping plains and Boat cruise along the Nike River
Up early for breakfast and ready for the game drive through Murchison falls National Park to see the early risers such as leopards, lions, serval cats, spotted hyenas and Caracals in addition to Rothschild giraffes, Cape buffaloes, hartebeests, elephant, Topis and bushbucks among others. This adventure lasts 3-4 hours after which you head back to the Lodge for refreshment and lunch.
In the afternoon undertake a boat cruise to the base of the Murchison falls where some of the highest concentrations of Hippos and Nile crocodiles in the World can be enjoyed. More animals and birds of this Park will be encountered. If you didn’t have an eventful hike to the top of the falls on the previous day, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy it with views of the falls and Devil’s cauldron among others.
Day 4: Trekking the endangered chimpanzees in Budongo Forest
After two days of exploring the savannah animals in Murchison falls National Park, this day will focus on the forest attractions-primates and birds. Enjoy breakfast and drive to the forest, within the north-western corner of the Park and is one of the top chimpanzee trekking destinations in the country. Make sure to have appropriate trekking gear (hiking boots, long trousers, long-sleeved shirts, gardening gloves, camera, first aid kit, hat and sunglasses) before embarking on this guided walk to find the habituated chimpanzees. On finding them, spend one hour in their presence and return to the Ecolodge for Lunch and relaxation.
Day 5: Spend the day at leisure
Spend the fifth day at leisure with options of just unwinding at the Lodge with beautiful views of the forest, another game drive or walking safari through the sweeping plains of Murchison falls National Park. In the afternoon after lunch enjoy the cultural tour through Boomu Cultural Group with a number of activities such as traditional dances, basket weaving demonstrations, tasting local dishes and interaction with the local community members to learn about their daily lifestyle. Dinner and overnight at the same Ecolodge as the previous day.
Day 6: Road trip back to Kampala or Entebbe
Breakfast and meet your safari driver to discuss on your departure back to the Capital or Entebbe. Once you have prepared, you will embark on your journey that will be characterized by en-route lunch breaks and photography sessions. This marks the end of our 6 days in Murchison falls and Budongo Chimpanzees.
