6 Days Big 5 & Big Cats Wildlife Safari
Uncover and learn more about wildlife in two of Uganda’s most gifted savanna parks in just six days. We take you first to the true African wilderness – Kidepo Valley National park in the far northeastern part of Uganda, neighboring south Sudan. The park is Semi-Arid, with one of the most captivating landscapes in Africa and host to a profusion of flora and fauna. And then later Murchison Falls National Park in north-west.
This is the largest and oldest national park in Uganda, hosting a myriad of birds, prey and predators alike. On this trip, there are high chances of encountering all the African Big 5 (elephants, Rhinos, Cape Buffalos, leopards and lions) in their natural habitat. The activities include a guided nature walk, game drive and boat cruise.
The trip is flexible; with ample time to rest, take photos, enjoy the meals and have quality sleep from the first to the last day of your trip. The other two places you will visit include Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for a one-hour Rhino tracking, and Kampala city tour. You’re Pickup and drop-off is at Entebbe International Airport of Kampala.
Itinerary in details.
Day 1: Arrival and City tour.
Arrival and pickup will be the very start of the adventure. The moment you land, Lake Victoria waters and the beauty in Uganda are unveiled as our company representative will be glad to welcome and give you a detailed briefing about your magical safari in the pearl of Africa.
Briefing will go on as you enjoy some organic Ugandan juice. The briefing involves verification and clearances, before driving to your hotel in the city for some refreshment as you wait for the next day’s long drive.
However, in case you get into the country early and refreshed, a city tour will be the first treat, where you will visit Uganda Museum, Owino Markets, and the Kasubi Tombs for historical Facts about the Buganda Kingdom. You will enjoy dinner and overnight sleep at Sunset.
Day 2: Kampala/Entebbe to Kidepo Valley National Park.
Wake up with a yummy breakfast meal at the hotel, and then hit the road for a full-day scenic game drive to the far northeastern edge of Uganda. The 10-12 hour drive is so comfortable though through some jam, tarmac, and maram road. You will enjoy the breathtaking views of green vegetation, captivating landscape, and mountain slopes.
Have a stopover at the newly created Gulu city for lunch; thereafter proceed to the true wilderness in the continent of Africa. You will have a late arrival at your lodge in the park for a sunset dinner meal and overnight. When you get to the park, drive to your lodge while watching some mammals and plants in their territories.
Day 3: Game drive and mingle with the Karamojong people.
From a peaceful nap to the lip-smacking breakfast meal, start the experience of wildlife with a glance at Nature through the Apoka View Point. This will be followed by a 4-hour game drive; time to admire one of the most scenic landscapes in the continent of Africa, and drawing closer to the rock lions, African elephants, cape Buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, and several Antelope species. In the same list of the park, residents include the rare ostrich; one of the largest birds in the world, the Borassus plant, and monkeys. The park is semi-arid, with a bigger portion of it being dry.
After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for refreshment and lunch, followed by a whole deal of authentic cultural dance and stories with the Karamojong warriors; known for their love for cattle and cow products. Tour the traditional Manyattas, kraals, and participate in the dance and drama from the start to the end. Have about an hour of nonstop experience, after which you will drive back to the lodge for refreshment, dinner, and a peaceful nap.
Day 4: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.
From the northeast to the North West, after breakfast checkout of the lodge for a drive to Murchison fall National Park via karuma dam, a 6-7 hour drive, through a tarmac and maram road with views of the plantations, busy towns and undulating Hills. Have a stopover for lunch, followed by a drive to the park.
At a close range, expect to spot a few residents inclusive birds, plants, and mammals. Dinner and overnight at sunset.
Day 5: Game drive and boat cruise.
At sunrise, greet your intestines with a yummy breakfast meal at the lodge, and then drive for the ferry crossing in case you are in the southern sector of the park. Most of the game drives take place at the northern sector of the park with savannah plains. Luck may be vital for encountering rare cats like the lions and leopards; however, the majority of mammals are present and easily seen grazing and hiding from the predators. These residents include the giraffes, Uganda Kobs, babies, water backs, Jackson Hartebeest, oribis, cape buffalos, water backs and African elephants among others; birds, reptiles, and primates.
After the game drive have another taste of Uganda fruits in the bush, before driving to the lodge for lunch, followed by a 3-hour boat cruise to the bottom of the most powerful waterfall on earth; Murchison Falls and also a hike to the top of Murchison falls. You will enjoy the lovely Victoria Nile breeze and watch the giant crocodiles, yawning hippos, birds and mammals at the river bank. Listen to the deafening thunders, plus watch the water bubbles and the close-by Uhuru Falls. End the day with dinner and overnight stay at sunset.
Day 6: Departure.
Brighten your morning with a heavy cup of coffee and checkout of the lodge for a transfer to the capital Kampala or Entebbe international airport. The day’s last activity will be a one-hour rhino tracking encounter at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola district.
Over 20 white Rhino species call the sanctuary home, and can easily be spotted during a one-hour search. Proceed for lunch in Kampala, before bidding farewell to your guide upon drop-off at Entebbe airport.
