5 Days Safari to Murchison Falls National Park
During this 5 Days Murchison Falls National Park safari, expect a thrilling experience and unforgettable encounter. Murchison falls National Park is the largest and oldest national park in Uganda.
It is located on the north-western edge of Albertine Rift-running on the Bunyoro escarpment, a 5-6 hour drive from the capital Kampala. It is one of the most visited national parks in Uganda, hosting the most powerful waterfalls on earth, a profusion of flora and fauna and some of the most classic safari lodges in the country.
You will do game drives, boat cruise, guided nature walk and chimpanzee trekking. A stopover will be in Nakasongola district for Rhino trekking, one of the five African big mammals. Pickup and drop-off at Entebbe international airport.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park.
Upon landing at Entebbe international airport, or from your hotel in Kampala city, you will be picked by our safari guide who will accompany you from the start to the end of this trip. The driver will brief you about destination Uganda, before hitting the road to the park for only 5-6 hours of drive on a well tarmacked highway marked by busy towns, rocky hills, green plantations and captivating landscape.
Have a stopover in Ziwa Rhino sanctuary to track the only wild rhinos in the country. It is a one-hour experience, followed by lunch before proceeding to your lodge in the park for refreshment, dinner and a peaceful nap.
Day 2: Full day game drive.
After a sunrise breakfast, spend this entire day looking out for the prey and predators in their natural territories in the northern sector of the park. You will encounter some mammals hunting, grazing or parading in attention to their visitors. These residents include the Uganda Kobs, giraffes, Cape Buffaloes, African elephants, waterbuck, Oribis, leopards, and lions on a lucky day and jackals to mention but a few, birds and other unique vegetation.
Enjoy bush breakfast, picnic lunch and sunset game drive for the nocturnal creatures. The day ends with dinner and overnight at sunset.
Day 3: Bird watching / guided nature walks and evening boat cruise.
After yummy breakfast meal at the lodge, you will get the morning rolling with birds at the designated trailheads. In the 4-hour bird quest, you will seek to identify 450+ bird species hosted in the park, notably occasionally seen; the shoebill stock and Abyssinian ground hornbill, black-headed lapwing, grey-crowned cranes and herons to mention but a few. The ranger guide helps in identifying the different bird species, before checking out to return to your lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will spend quality time on a launch trip to the bottom of Murchison falls – the most powerful waterfalls on earth. The boat cruise experience lasts for about three hours, with views of exciting mammals like the bucks and elephants quenching their thirst, school of hippos and crocodiles among aquatic birds and cool air breeze. The cruise takes you to the bottom of the falls at a point offering magnificent views of the thundering falls.
Visit the top of Murchison falls marked by bubbling waters, a permanent rainbow usually seen on sunny days and the adjacent Uhuru waterfalls. End the day with dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo forest.
You will start the day with yummy breakfast and then drive south of the park to Budongo forest; a lush forest hosting huge concentrations of primates, birds and mahogany vegetation. The driver-guide will welcome and brief you about the adventure, verify documents and the trekking do’s before entering the jungle for a 2-6 hour search. Chimpanzees are shy yet social creatures; man’s closest relatives with over 98% similar DNA.
Walk under the huge tree branches while identifying different trees and primates such as the grey-cheeked monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys and white and Black colobus monkeys to mention but a few, while spending an hour with the chimps, pay attention to their sounds, eating and way of interaction and take photos.
Thereafter return to the lodge for lunch, before spending the evening at leisure, while taking photos, engage in sports or just relax. Call it a day with hefty dinner meal and night stay.
Day 5: Departure.
Check out of the lodge for a transfer to Kampala city / Entebbe international airport for your flight back home. You will have stopovers in the different busy towns for you to purchase some souvenirs in remembrance of quality time you had in this country.
