In Uganda, you will visit Murchison Falls national park; home to the most powerful waterfalls on earth-Murchison Falls; Semiliki National park for birds and Queen Elizabeth National Park, a medley of wonders. In Rwanda, you will track the mighty mountain gorillas in volcanoes national park, track chimpanzees at Nyungwe national park, participate in a canopy walk and relax along Lake Kivu shorelines. The activities to engage in include; boat cruise, game drive, nature walk, bird watching, cultural encounter and city tours. The trip starts at Entebbe international airport and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.
Detailed Trip.
Day 1: Arrival.
You will arrive and be welcomed for your 13 days safari in Uganda and Rwanda. Our company representative will gladly greet and brief you about the entire trip, before driving immediately to your hotel around Kampala city. Here enjoy your dinner and a peaceful nap while waiting for the next day’s adventure.
If you land at Entebbe airport early, choose to visit one or two places around Kampala city before resting at the lodge. Amazing places around Kampala city include Gadhafi mosque, Uganda Museum, reptile Village, Owino market or Kasubi tombs
Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.
Start your day with a cup of coffee at the lodge, and thereafter checkout for a transfer to one of the most visited national parks in Uganda, the Murchison Falls National Park. This is one of the oldest and largest savanna park in the country, hosting four of Africa’s big five and the most powerful waterfalls on earth.
The drive lasts for roughly 5-6 hours, with a one-hour stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary to track the only group of white Rhinos in the country. You will thereafter have lunch and proceed to the lodge inside or outside the park to check-in for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Game drive and boat cruise.
Start the day with breakfast and then head for a three to four-hour game drive in the northern sector of the Park. A sunrise game drive offers impressive views of the captivating landscape, birds and mammals. Chance the sighting of elusive prey and predators as they chase themselves around the park. Suspected residents may notably be waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, warthogs, buffaloes, giraffes and lions, while birds may include Egyptian geese, Abyssinian ground hornbills and several others. After game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an evening boat cruise to the bottom of the falls.
The cruise lasts for roughly three hours, with views of Nile crocodiles, hippos and elephants among others. The boat will also take you to the point where you will watch and listen to sounds of raging waterfalls. Proceed with a hike past the devils’ cauldron to top of the falls. Where else can you watch the bubbling waters, take photos and admire the permanent rainbow, other than the Murchison falls? End your day at the lodge with dinner and a nap.
Day 4: Transfer to Fort portal city.
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge for a Transfer to fort portal – the tourism city of Uganda. Enjoy the breathtaking landscape of plantations and rolling hills. The trip amounts to smiles, fun and discovery. You will have lunch stopover, before proceeding to your lodge around the city for refreshment, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Birding and sightseeing in Semuliki national Park.
After breakfast, set off for Semuliki National Park, a heaven for over 40% of the total bird species across Uganda. In the forest, you will look to identify the Turacos, eagles, cranes, storks and so much more. You will also go to the Sempaya hot springs to take impressive photos and try boiling eggs in a hot geyser. Lunch will be in the park whereas in the evening, you return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Afternoon boat cruise.
After breakfast at daybreak, depart fort portal city for Queen Elizabeth National Park, a 2-3 hours’ drive, with amazing views of the plantation, breathtaking landscape and the natives of this area. You will arrive and register at the entrance, before proceeding to your lodge with game viewing experience.
Thereafter have lunch and then spend the evening on a boat cruise along Kazinga channel, habitat to hippos, crocodiles and so much more. This day ends at the lodge with dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Full day game drive.
Wake up to a yummy breakfast meal at the lodge, and thereafter spend the entire day in the wild with mammals, birds and verdant flora. The only breaks come at the time of lunch and breakfast. Notable residents you may be able to encounter at the course of your adventure include zebras, Buffalos, African elephants, warthogs, hippos, wild dogs, giraffes, leopards and lions. Explore the Kasenyi sweeping savannah and Ishasha sector for the tree-climbing lions where you will spend this night.
Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
At daybreak, greet your intestines with a hefty breakfast and then check out of the lodge for a transfer to Volcanoes National park in the northern part of Rwanda. It is 8-9 hours’ drive, with document verification at the scenic border post of either Cyanika or Katuna. Thereafter have another stopover for lunch, before proceeding to the park for dinner and overnight, as you wait for the next day’s activities.
Day 9: Gorilla trekking and Ibyiwachu community experience.
Brighten your morning with a cup of coffee at the lodge, after which you drive to the park gate for Gorilla trekking briefing and registration. Gorillas have about 98% Human-like DNA, with giant body structure and a well-established family. Ranger guides will explain different trekking dos and don’ts, and explain facts about the gorillas before accompanying you to the apes. You will first checkout for the apes where they were last spotted, before walking through the tree shades.
The trekking exercise lasts for roughly 2-6 hours, plus an additional hour for photos and listening to the explanations from the ranger guides. The family you will track is led by a dominant silverback whose duty is to maintain order and protect the family among others. After encountering your relatives, return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an optional cultural encounter at Ibyiwachu community, to uncover the life and culture of Rwandan people. Dinner and overnight stay at sunset.
Day 10: Transfer to Nyungwe National park.
This day starts with a lip-smacking breakfast at the lodge and thereafter checkout for a transfer to Nyungwe National park; home to a total of 13 unique primate species. Nyungwe is one of the most visited national parks in Rwanda, harboring the largest concentration of primates. You will have a stopover at the Nyanza palace museum for some historical facts about Rwanda, before getting to the Park in the evening for dinner and overnight. The route to the park is marked by rolling Hills, tea plantations and you will have a stopover for lunch in Huye town.
Day 11: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk adventure.
Kick start the day with breakfast and then checkout for a transfer to the park headquarters to register and be briefed about Chimpanzees, other primates and the trekking guidelines. Nyungwe National park has about 13 unique primates, which are dominated by the chimpanzees – man’s closest relatives. The trekking exercise lasts for roughly 2-6 hours, plus an additional hour of taking photos, watching the apes play and asking the guides questions. Don’t forget to follow the trekking dos and don’ts from the start to end of this adventure.
Afterwards, return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon canopy walk; watching the breathtaking landscape and park residents such as the birds and primates in the treetops. Enjoy your evening at the lodge with dinner and a peaceful slumber.
Day 12: Explore Lake Kivu.
Start your day with breakfast at the lodge, and checkout for a transfer to Lake Kivu – largest lake in Rwanda. You will spend the day swimming, chilling, rewinding and having boat rides on the lake. End the day with dinner and overnight at the lodge. Lake Kivu is surrounded by trees, birds and unequalled serenity.
Day 13: Departure.
After breakfast at the lodge, you will checkout for a transfer to Kigali city for your flight to the next destinations. You will enjoy the rolling hills, plantations and busy cities. In Kigali city, you will have lunch, a tour around the local markets and genocide memorial center before going to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
