This short Rwanda Gorilla Tour kicks-off from Kigali (the cleanest and Capital of Rwanda) and ends in the same place but involves spending almost half a day in the jungles of Volcanoes. You will be trekking any of the 12 gorilla groups that include Hirwa, Sabyinyo, Ugenda, Agashya (Group 13), Kwitonda, Umubano, Muhoza, Bwenge, Amahoro, Susa A, Susa B (Karisimbi) and Igisha.
Nestled in the north-west of Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park is one of the four places to trek the endangered mountain gorillas and extends for about 160 square kilometers. Being one of the oldest Parks in the African Continent, Volcanoes was established in 1925. Visitors to this Park are not only introduced to the 12 habituated gorilla groups but also get a chance to walking Dian Fossey’s conservation journey, spotting other mammals such as spotted hyenas, leopards, duikers, Olive baboons, golden monkeys as well as bird totaling to over 180 species.
Detailed Itinerary
The 1 day Rwanda Gorilla Tour starts with pick-up from your place of lodging in Kigali after breakfast. Leave with your lunch box by 4:30am then continue 116 kilometers northwards of the City to the remarkable Volcanoes National Park.
Expect one of the shortest and fastest journeys in Africa, lasting only 3 hours and in no time you will be at the Park Headquarters for registration and briefing At this point, don’t forget your passport and gorilla permit in addition to other trekking essentials (backpack, sunglasses, camera, binoculars, drinking water, snacks, rain jacket, hat, insect repellant and gardening gloves).
After briefing, you will connect to the trailhead by your safari vehicle and later start the trek through the dense forest, rugged terrains and valleys of Volcanoes National Park. The trek lasts half an hour to 6 hours depending on the location of these primates and upon making contract, spend one hour Make good use of your time with the gorillas and later enjoy your packed Lunch.
