3 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari
Visit Akagera national park in Rwanda and explore stunning wildlife found in this conservation area that is located at the border of Tanzania and Rwanda. This is the only savannah national park in Rwanda and its name originates from River Akagera which spans across the border of these two countries until Lake Victoria in Uganda.
Resident savannah mammals include Masai giraffes, rhinos, Zebras, hyenas, lions, buffalos, leopards, and antelopes like waterbucks, Topis and bush bucks. You will spot more hippos and crocodiles during a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, as well different bird species will also be spotted. Also have an opportunity of visiting some sites in Kigali city.
Day by day itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive/pick up from Kigali and transfer to Akagera national park.
Be picked from Kigali at either hotel or airport by the private driver-guide well knowledgeable about the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda. The expert driver/guide will straight away pack your luggage in the car and brief you about the safari itinerary and other formalities regarding this safari.
Thereafter drive to Akagera national park which is located in North – Eastern Rwanda at the border of Tanzania. This is a savannah national park with various animals, birds and flora species. The park is home to the shimmering Lake Ihema that offers boat cruise opportunities to spot various animals like crocodiles, hippos plus other water birds. On arrival, you will check in at your place of accommodation and prepare for the next two park activities.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise in Akagera national park.
Wake up early and take part in the game drive that lasts for not more than 3 hours. This park is known to be among the most savannah scenic destinations in East Africa, filled with mammals like elephants, Masai giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and many other big cats. The beautiful scenery in Akagera national park is dotted with swamps, hills, water bodies such as Lake Ihema and other small lakes.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will view lots of crocodiles and hippos as well as other bird species. This will be a full day of exploring Akagera national park’s rich flora and fauna species.
Day 3: Depart to Kigali and drop off at the airport.
This the last day of your safari, head to Kigali city after having your breakfast at the lodge which will be followed by drop-off at the airport. This will mark the end of 3 days wildlife safari in Akagera national park.
