15 Days Uganda, Rwanda & Congo Gorilla Safari
Our 15-day safari through Uganda, Rwanda and Congo offers the unbeaten experience of exploring three beautiful countries and their top tourist destinations. In Uganda, we shall explore Murchison falls, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks while in Rwanda we shall visit Volcanoes National Park and in Democratic Republic of Congo we head to the spectacular Virunga National Park.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival into Uganda, for the 15 days Uganda, Rwanda and Congo Safari
On this day, arrive Uganda via Entebbe International Airport for the unforgettable 15 days Uganda, Rwanda and Congo Safari. Your meals and overnight stay will be at one of the beautiful accommodation Facilities in Kampala.
Day 2: Kampala-Murchison falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
On the second day of the 15 days Uganda, Rwanda and Congo Safari, meet and greet our Professional driver at your place of stay and embark on the road trip to Murchison falls National Park in the north-western part of the country. En-route make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track the southern white rhinos in their natural habitat and this takes 2-3 hours. Leave this magnificent Sanctuary and continue to Masindi Town for Lunch, then finally to the Park for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Wildlife Viewing and afternoon Launch Cruise to the bottom of Murchison falls
After an amazing breakfast at the wilderness place of stay, we head for the thrilling wildlife viewing adventure within Murchison falls National Park where chances of encountering four of the big five-elephants, lions, leopards and Cape buffaloes in addition to Rothschild giraffes, warthogs, Topis, Jackson’s hartebeests, Hippos, Uganda Kobs, common elands and Defassa waterbucks can be encountered. As soon as you have finalized with this game drive, retire to the Lodge for Lunch.
In the afternoon we head for the paraa jetty for a short briefing then undertake the Launch cruise towards the bottom of the Murchison falls. Different wildlife species such as Hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs and many others will be encountered during this adventure and on getting to the bottom of the falls, embark on the hike to the top of the falls that lasts 45-50 minutes.
Day 4: Connect to Kibale Forest National Park via Lake Albert flats
On the 4th day be served a hot cup of tea/coffee then join your safari driver for the transfer to Kibale Forest National Park with en-route Lunch in Hoima Town. Be prepared for a long and rewarding journey with spectacular sceneries of the countryside, rolling hills and rural homesteads and on arrival be dropped at your Forest Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Trekking Chimpanzees in Kibale Forest and undertaking guided walk through Bigodi wetland Sanctuary
An early breakfast starts off this day and is followed by registration and briefing at Kanyanchu Visitor Center, but make sure to have packed lunch and enough drinking water. During this 30-minute briefing, be sure to get acquainted with the expectations from the forest, chimpanzees as well as guidelines. Begin the trek that will introduce you to the different mammal species, birds and trees found in Kibale Forest and after 1-4 hours encounter the habituated troop of chimpanzees of which you will spend one hour observing and photographing them. The remainder of the day will be spent at Bigodi wetland Sanctuary with a guided walk where primates and wetland bird species will be spotted and later get back to the Lodge for dinner as well as overnight.
Day 6: Continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park, evening game drive
Be served breakfast and check-out of the Lodge and jungles for a drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park with a stop at the Crater Lakes. Lunch will be on arrival at your final destination with beautiful sunset views.
Day 7: Guided walking safari/game drive and Kazinga Boat Cruise
Start your day with a hot cup of tea or coffee to keep your spirit high and expectant for the adventure in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Two activities are lined-up for this day, the first being game viewing where elephants, buffaloes, leopards, Hippos, Uganda Kobs, Lions, warthogs and Defassa waterbucks will be spotted. Return to the Lodge for a proper breakfast or brunch then relax until lunchtime.
In the afternoon you will be rejuvenated for the Kazinga Boat cruise where more of the Park’s animals especially Hippos and crocodiles alongside elephants, buffaloes and Uganda Kobs in addition to birds will be encountered. The spectacular sunset views will make this activity worthwhile and return to the Lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 8: Spotting the tree climbing lions and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, pack your bags and leave for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a stop at Ishasha sector (in the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park) for a chance to spot the tree climbing lions. More animals will be seen and later proceed to Savannah Resort for Lunch and continue with the journey to Bwindi to trek the endangered mountain gorillas.
Day 9: Trekking Bwindi Gorillas and undertake Batwa Cultural tour
Have breakfast and get ready for the gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Attend the pre-trekking registration and briefing at the Park Headquarters then embark on the walk through the jungle to search for the allotted gorilla group and this takes about half an hour to over 6 hours. After successfully trekking and spending one hour in the presence of the gorillas, return back to the Lodge for Lunch.
In the evening undertake the Batwa Cultural tour in the company of a local guide where you will enjoy their traditional dance, learn about their local fire making skills, learn how to use a bow and arrow and visit the local healer to learn about different plants, tree barks, roots and leaves used in making herbal medicine, then get back to the Lodge for dinner and slumber.
Day 10: Cross the border to Rwanda, drive to Volcanoes National Park
After enjoying breakfast, we leave Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for Volcanoes National Park via Cyanika or Katuna border points. Lunch will be served on arrival in Rwanda’s gorilla trekking destination and later relaxation.
Day 11: Trekking Rwanda Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and visit to Gorilla Guardian Village
On this day, another gorilla trekking adventure will be undertaken in Volcanoes National Park, starting with briefing at Kinigi Park Headquarters. Learn about the guidelines of trekking, what to expect from the jungle and later hire porters (where necessary) to offer support during the trek and at about 8:00am be driven to the trailhead. 20-30 minutes’ later start the trek that lasts 1-5 hours with not just views of the gorillas but also birds, other primates and butterfly species. After spending the one hour with these Great Apes, return back to the starting point where you meet the driver for a transfer back to the Lodge for Lunch.
In the evening spend time at the Gorilla Guardian Village, to learn about Rwandan culture through traditional dances, tasting local cuisines, traditional beer brewing lessons and many other activities. This thrilling cultural tour closes your day and later we enjoy dinner and slumber at the same Lodge.
Day 12: Trekking Rwanda Golden Monkeys and drive to Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo
We head back to the jungles for the golden monkey tracking adventure, after an amazing breakfast at the Lodge. This activity is for persons above 12 years old and also allows a maximum of one hour with these frisky primates for photography and observation. Be back at the Lodge for Lunch and drive to Goma Town, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Dinner and slumber at one of the top Hotels in this City.
Day 13: Trekking Congo Mountain Gorillas
Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park is not different from the two previous destinations (Bwindi and Volcanoes National Parks) although terrains might vary as well as gorilla families being different. Breakfast at the Lodge and later registration/briefing at Bukima Ranger Post then the search for the mountain gorillas followed by one hour to spend in their presence. Be back at the Lodge for Lunch and relaxation after spending one hour with the Virunga Gorillas. The evening will be spent at leisure-lounging at the Lodge with a cold drink or touring the Park headquarters.
Day 14: Ascend Mount Nyiragongo, Virunga National Park
After breakfast and getting your Mount Nyiragongo hiking gear ready, we transfer to Kibati Ranger Post for briefing where we shall also learn of their Volcano’s activeness (last eruption being May 2021). The hike begins by 10:00am in the company of armed Ranger guides and be at the summit after 5-6 hours. Enjoy photography and breathtaking views before setting Camp for dinner and rest.
Day 15: Descend Mount Nyiragongo, Virunga National Park and drive to Kigali, Rwanda
Enjoy breakfast by 5:00am and by 6:00am start the descent to Kibati Ranger Post where you will meet your safari driver for a transfer to Kigali City, Rwanda. Lunch will be enjoyed in Kigali after which undertake a City excursion before drop-off at the Airport or Hotel. This marks the end of our 15 days Uganda, Rwanda and Congo Safari.
