15 Days Uganda Hiking, Primates & Wildlife Safari
This 15-day safari takes you to the best of Uganda’s wildlife, primates and attractions. Get to know all the regions of Uganda in a single trip; central, east, northwestern, western and the southwestern, spend nights in classic accommodation facilities and travel in comfortable safari cars.
You will uncover the source of the longest river on earth – river Nile in Jinja; the Magical Sipi falls on the slopes of Mount. Elgon; the true wilderness of Africa in Kidepo Valley National Park; home to the most powerful waterfalls on earth, Murchison Falls National park; Uganda’s primate world – Kibale forest national park; medley of wonders – Queen Elizabeth National park; asylum to the Gorillas – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the “second Switzerland of Africa”- Lake Bunyonyi. The trip starts and ends from Entebbe international airport.
Detailed Trip.
Day 1: Pickup and undertake Kampala tour.
Our company guide will welcome you to the Pearl of Africa for an incredible encounter with Mother Nature. The guide will happily receive and brief you about the itinerary, as well as helping in the necessary clearance.
In case you arrive early, visit the reptile Village in Entebbe or Gadhafi mosque in the heart of Kampala city, where you capture 360 degrees’ views of the entire city. Thereafter continue to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight, as you wait for next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Travel to Sipi falls via Jinja.
Start the day with a lip-smacking breakfast at the lodge and then checkout for a rewarding drive to Sipi Falls in the eastern part of Uganda. It takes above 5-6 hours of drive, past the ancient Mabira forest where the locals will be offering some chicken and food stuff for bites.
The first stopover will be in Jinja for a 1 hour boat ride to the source of longest river in the world – River Nile. Here you will also have lunch and take photos, before proceeding with the drive to your lodge at Sipi region, traversing a variety of plantations and rolling hills. Enjoy Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Explore Sipi falls region.
After breakfast, check out of the lodge for a tour of the three magical falls of Sipi, along the lower slopes of Mount. Elgon National Park. You will follow the Sipi trail at the foothills of giant Mount. Elgon. Hike pass the bamboo trees, lush plantations, coffee plantations and local homesteads.
You will reach the falls, have lunch and then enjoy the sprawling views. Take time to bathe under the waters, take photos, listen to the thunderous sound and interact with the native residents. At sunset return to the lodge for refreshment, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Sipi Falls to Kidepo Valley National park.
The day starts with breakfast, after which you will checkout for a transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park in the far northern part of Uganda. Kidepo valley is a semi-desert wilderness, harboring a profusion of mammals, birds and desert plants.
You will have an opportunity to encounter the Karamajong renowned cattle keepers, grass thatched Manyattas, and the rolling hills. Have a stopover at Nyero rock painting for the historical study of the ancient paintings at the rock. The other stopover will be for lunch, before calling it a day at your lodge in the park for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Game drive and mingle with the Karamajong people.
The day starts with delicious breakfast, before starting your way to the Narus valley, for an encounter with mammals, birds and other residents. Kidepo valley is a semi-desert, with one of the most fascinating landscapes in the world. The landscape rolls with dotted trees and shelters different animals including lions, cape buffaloes, warthogs, different antelope species, African elephants and the elusive ostrich. The game drive lasts for approximately 3-4 hours, after which you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Karamajong community living just adjacent to the park. You will enjoy lively cultural dances, songs and their uniquely designed Manyattas. Dress like them, laugh and join the dance. The day ends at the lodge with dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Kidepo Valley to Murchison Falls National Park.
From the north to the west, start the morning with a yummy breakfast meal at the lodge, and off you checkout for Murchison falls national park. It is a full day drive, with lunch stopover in Gulu city, a newly created city in Uganda. The route offers amazing views of locals carrying on with their trade, busy towns, rolling hills, and a variety of plantations.
Through Nwoya or Masindi, get to your lodge in the park for dinner and overnight stay. There are also amazing accommodation facilities just outside the park, suitable for a comfortable nap.
Day 7: Game drive and boat cruise.
After breakfast at the lodge, you will exit for the northern sector of the park, where for approximately 3-4 hours, you will enjoy the views of the breathtaking landscape, but also looking out for the lions, leopards, zebras, warthogs, impalas, buffaloes, and water backs among others. There are also over 350 unique bird species including fowls, storks, hornbills and numerous kinds of eagles; primates such as olive baboons and unique plant species like the whistling acacia.
After game drive, drive back to the lodge for lunch or enjoy picnic lunch, followed by an afternoon boat trip to the bottom of mighty Murchison waterfalls; while listening to the thundering falls, watching the waters squeeze through the 7-meter gorge.
Watch crocodiles, hippos and several aquatic birds, before hiking to the top of Murchison falls for an epic view of the source of these energetic falls and other surrounding falls. Call it a day with slumber and sweet dinner.
Day 8: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.
After breakfast, checkout of the lodge for a drive from the northwestern to the western region for primates in Kibale Forest National Park. It is a 7-8 hours’ drive through a route marked by flourishing plantations, captivating landscape and scattered homesteads. You will have late lunch at Fort Portal City, before getting to your lodge at sunset for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking and Isunga cultural tour.
Wake up to a yummy breakfast at the lodge and off you head to the park headquarters for a pre trekking briefing by the ranger guides. Kibale forest harbors over 13 unique primate species dominated by the mighty chimpanzees, white and black Colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys and so much more. The ranger guides will register and brief you about the trekking exercise, before accompanying for the 1-4 hours, plus an additional hour of watching the chimps, taking photos and listening to your cousins.
The chimps possess over 98% human-like DNA, feed using small sticks as their forks and make about 25 different sounds. Manage your time with the apes, after which you will return to the lodge for lunch and refreshment. And then an afternoon cultural experience with the Isunga community; interacting with the locals and enjoying the thrilling entertainment in form of dance, dram, crafts and a village tour. The day ends with dinner and overnight
Day 10: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park.
You will checkout of the lodge after breakfast and spend about two hours exploring some crater lakes around Fort Portal City. The crater lakes have unrivaled beauty and amazing history, of which the driver guide will explain each of them.
Thereafter have lunch around the city, before driving to the lodge in Queen Elizabeth National park, arriving and checking in for some refreshment. Any optional activity such as a night game drive can be requested before you rest for the day after a lip-smacking dinner meal.
Day 11: Game drive and boat cruise.
The first thing today is greeting your taste buds with a hefty breakfast meal at the lodge, followed by a three to four-hour game drive at the Kisenyi and some other parts of the park. The activities offer an opportunity of coming eye to eye with a variety of birds, primates in mammals such as the baboons, elephants, Cape Buffaloes, lions, leopards, wild dogs, Turacos, egrets and so much more, as they hunt, graze or relax.
After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for refreshment and Lunch, followed by an afternoon boat cruise. For about 2-3 hours on the water, one gets to know facts about the aquatic life such as the hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, and so much more. Retire to bed at sunset for dinner and a nap.
Day 12: A transfer to Bwindi forest via Ishasha sector.
Early in the morning, wake up for a relaxed breakfast meal at the lodge, bid farewell to your new friends as you set off for Bwindi impenetrable National Park- an asylum to the sought-after mountain Gorillas. The Misty jungles will offer a great welcome, as you drive to the lodge in one of the four sectors for refreshment, dinner and a nap.
From Queen Elizabeth national park, you will use the Ishasha sector, where for about two hours you will track the rare tree-climbing lions resting in the lush treetops. Follow the exercise with lunch in the same region, before proceeding to the park.
Day 13: Gorilla trekking and Batwa pygmies’ tour.
After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, you will join the rest of the days’ gorilla trekkers at the park headquarters for registration and briefing. The ranger guides explain the trekking rules, what to expect, and how the gorillas are. A maximum of 8 persons will be allocated a group, in which the ranger guide will help in trekking, from the point they were encountered last to where they are. Mountain gorillas move from one place to another and depending on how far they have moved and your trekking time, expect a hike of approximately 2-6 hours, plus an additional one hour for taking photos and observing the silverbacks, infants, and many more.
After the trekking exercise, exit the jungle for lunch and the rest, before visiting the Batwa pygmies; one of the shortest people in Uganda who spent time in the forest as hunters and gatherers. You will get to enjoy the stories, dances and a community tour to see these unique beings. Thereafter retire to the lodge at sunset for dinner and overnight.
Day 14: Relax and rewind at Lake Bunyonyi.
Kick start the day with a breakfast meal at the lodge, before exiting for a two-three hour amazing drive to lake Bunyonyi; the unmatched paradise. Lake Bunyonyi is a beautiful silent place, with a variety of birds and plants. The place is surrounded by over 29 historical islands. The most notable of these islands is the punishment island, where unmarried girls that conceived unwanted pregnant were banished and later left to die.
You will have a great time at your lodge and around the lake, enjoying meals, nature walks and canoe ride on the calm waters, relaxing and swimming. Later in the evening, you will retire to bed for dinner and a nap.
Day 15: Departure.
Wake up to a heavy cup of coffee at the lodge, after which you will checkout for a departure to Kampala city or Entebbe international airport for your exit flight. There will be an En-route stopover at the equator for photography, lunch and watching the demonstrations at this point.
